A 4-year-old Ohio boy, angered after his teenage brother stepped on his foot, went to his bedroom, retrieved a shotgun and blasted the older boy, the Columbus Times-Dispatch reports.

According to a sheriff's spokesman, the boy announced that he was going to get a get a gun, but everyone in the house thought he was talking about a toy. Instead, he returned with the real thing and shot 17-year-old Nathan Beavers in the arm.

"He didn't say much," said Chief Deputy Jim Ephlin of the Jackson County sheriff's office. "He said he was mad at Nathan. He said, 'I'm going to go get a gun.' The others thought he was kidding and was going to get a toy gun.” It's a good thing that the shell was full of birdshot, Ephlin said.

The 4-year-old, whose name was not made public because of his age, is in the custody of his parents "until we see what the prosecutor wants to do," Ephlin said. "We've never had one like this."
